Runner’s Social Responsibility (RSR)

Run to Walk Movement

Vision:
A non profit movement with the aim to encourage all Singaporeans to invest in their own health through running.

How:
We hope to reach out to all aspects of the community by using our 3 main programs.

  • RTWrun - a free, non-club affiliated, fortnightly run at bedok reservoir park (www.runtowalksg.org)
  • RTWedu - knowledge is power. Through education, we hope to make it easy to start running as well as to make running a good experience.
  • RTWaid - to raise funds and awareness for Renci Community Hospital and St. Luke's Community Hospital

Where will my money go to?
100% of your donation will go towards the RTWaid program which gives all the money evenly split between the two community hospitals stated above.

Why has RTWaid chosen these 2 beneficiaries?
We aim to bring awareness in the community towards the role of community hospitals. In line with vision 2030 and the silver generation Singapore will be facing in the coming years, it is appropriate to focus on our elderly.

What is the role of Community Hospitals in our healthcare system?
Community Hospitals such as Renci and Saint Luke's are sub acute care hospitals. When you are sick, you will be admitted to an acute hospital such as the Singapore General Hospital. When you are medically stable but still not ready to go back to the community, the acute hospitals do not have enough beds to let you stay further. You will then be discharged to a community hospital where patients spend an average of 3-4 weeks in rehabilitation to help them walk again. Each day of stay will cost $140 per patient.

Who are most affected?
Our elderly are the most affected as they have a very low threshold before their function will decline. A simple lung infection can render them immobile and will require rehabilitation with patience to get them back up on their feet.

What if I want to donate more?

How else can I support the Run to Walk movement?
You can support us by joining us on our free fortnightly runs at Bedok Reservoir Park. It will be great if you can bring your friends along on this 4.8km run around the beautiful reservoir.

Training: Run Clinics
The Run to Walk (RTW) movement, and their RTWrun program, is our official training partner with their RTWrun program. Register and start running!

What is RTWrun?
RTWrun is one of the Run to Walk Movement’s three avenues of getting our community moving. It is a 4.8km run – it’s you against the clock.

Why 4.8km?
4.8km is twice the most popular run distance in Singapore, the 2.4km, and thrice the primary school fitness test event of 1.6km.
By doubling the distance, participants can set a goal for themselves by estimating your best time for 2.4km multiply by 2 and adding 1 and a half minute.

For Primary School Children who are training for the 1.6km, you can estimate your goal to be your best time for 1.6km multiplied by 3 and adding two and a half minutes).

For example:
Personal Best for 2.4km = 10min; Target for 4.8km = 10 x 2 +1:30 = 21min 30seconds
Personal Best for 1.6km = 8min; Target for 4.8km = 8 x 3 + 2:30 = 26min 30seconds
